MIAMI — You know about the joys of voting at the polls. The scanner sucking in your ballot as you participate in democracy. The poll worker clutching your prize: the red, white and blue “I Voted!” sticker good for that Instagram selfie.

But now there’s another perk. One of Miami-Dade’s 33 early voting sites is offering freebies for casting your ballot.

Cast your vote at one of the booths inside the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in downtown Miami and you’ll receive free admission and discounts.

“We hope to encourage our community to vote while also exploring the wonders of science and discovery that our museum offers,” said Doug Roberts, Frost’s president and CEO.

So, yes, there’s some self-promotion going on. But civic good is a factor as well, Roberts said.

“As a cultural and educational institution deeply rooted in the community, Frost Science is honored to serve as an early voting location. Partnering with Miami-Dade County on this important initiative reinforces our commitment to civic engagement, ensuring that every resident can participate in the democratic process in an accessible and welcoming space,” Roberts told the Miami Herald in a statement.

Perks at the museum

Here’s what you get for voting early at the Frost Museum, besides that coveted “I Voted” sticker:

▪ Free museum admission: One free admission ticket per voter. The pass is valid through Nov. 22, 2024.

▪ Discounts: The “I Voted” sticker is good for more than Instagram pictures. Show your sticker while you’re there and get 10% off at the museum’s Food@Science or the Science Store.

▪ Membership discount: Receive 15% off any museum membership level, from individual to voyager.

▪ Free parking: Available in the museum garage, as long as there’s room.

The museum will follow the early voting schedule hours that have been set up across Miami-Dade and Broward counties: 7 a.m to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 3.

The Science Plaza, Knight Plaza voting site at the museum is at 1101 Biscayne Blvd., Miami.
