BOSTON — A bus driver for an early childhood learning program in Newton has been indicted on three charges of kidnapping after prosecutors say he spent time doing unknown things with the young children in a secluded area.

A Middlesex Superior Court grand jury delivered an indictment against Justin Vose, 42, of Bedford, charging him with three counts of kidnapping.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office said these charges are based on Vose’s alleged “inappropriate conduct” with semi-nonverbal children between 3 and 5 years old while he was working as a bus driver for the Newton Early Education Childhood Program and Transportation for Newton Public Schools contracted through JSC Transportation.

The two school programs notified police of suspicious activity by Vose, a contract driver, on May 28. They told police that the bus company checked the GPS location of the bus after children were getting dropped off late. This shows that he was driving the bus to a “secluded portion of the parking lot near the tree line,” according to a DA statement.

“An investigation revealed that, on multiple occasions, the defendant had transported three victims, between ages 3 and 5 years old, to secluded areas and turned off the audio and video recording in his bus for up to 20 minutes at a time,” prosecutors wrote in a statement. “At no time did the school district, parent of the students, daycare or bus company official authorize the defendant’s change in route or one-on-one time with the victims.”
