DETROIT — On the anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, the Jewish Federation of Detroit's Bloomfield Township offices were attacked by vandals Monday who spray-painted antisemetic messages on the exterior of the building, the organization said.

Vandals used red and black spray paint to leave messages that read "f--- Israel," "antifada" and "free Palestine" on the windows the federation's office building, which faces Telegraph Road south of Maple Road in Oakland County. The messages were sprayed on the lower-floor of windows and some other areas of the front door were defaced with spray paint.

Gary Torgow, federation president, and Steven Ingber, federation CEO, issued a statement early Monday condemning the vandalism and vowing to remain committed to fighting hate.

"We are deeply disturbed and saddened to report that early this morning the offices of the Jewish Federation of Detroit were the target of antisemtic vandalsim," the statement read. "This attack, occuring on the anniversary of the October 7 massacre in Israel, was not only an assault on our physical space but also on the heart of our community. It is a stark reminder of the rising tide of hate affecting Jewish people, here and around the world."

Police are investigating the incident.
