Kerr captures Safeway Classic in playoff

PORTLAND, Ore. (UPI) -- Cristie Kerr claimed her 11th LPGA title Sunday, sinking an 18-foot birdie putt to win a three-way playoff at the Safeway Classic in Portland, Ore.

Kerr won over Helen Alfredsson and Sophie Gustafson, who both missed birdie attempts.

The three tour veterans had tied in regulation at 13-under-par 203 at the Columbia Edgewater course after Kerr fired a 65, Gustafson 68 and Alfredsson 69 in the final round.

"Just amazing," Kerr said after the playoff. "Words can't describe it. It's great."

Kerr won $255,000.

Katherine Hull, winner of the Canadian Open last week, closed with a 67 for an 11-under 205 to finish fourth. Hee-Won Han (66) was another shot back.
