PITTSBURGH — Pirates veteran left-handed relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman has been suspended two games for his actions that led to an ejection from Monday’s game against the Mets, MLB announced Thursday. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was the first to report the news.

Chapman’s incident occurred in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jeff McNeil reached first base following a dropped third strike by Pirates catcher Henry Davis to begin the frame. DJ Stewart drew a walk in the following at-bat, during which Chapman was visibly upset with the calls from home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso.

Chapman’s final pitch of the night resulted in a two-run double down the left-field line from Harrison Bader. Not long after the play ended, Chapman could be seen exchanging words with Moscoso, which resulted in him getting ejected. The Pirates went on to lose the game by a final score of 6-3.

“He evidently said something that the umpire did not like,” Shelton said. “Because of that, he got ejected.”

Chapman is permitted to appeal. He will also face a fine. In nine games this season, Chapman has gone 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA. A seven-time All-Star, Chapman has struck out 11 batters and issued six walks in 5 2/3 innings of work this season.
