NASCAR’s highly-anticipated Netflix series premieres Tuesday.

The five-part documentary series captures last year’s NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and championship, showcasing the intensity of the sport and personalities of the drivers.

Nine drivers are featured in each 45-minute episode: Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick.

“If you’re a race car driver, you have the opportunity to be hurt — or killed,” ESPN’s Marty Smith said in the trailer. “And you do it anyway. Think about what a badass that is.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. worked as an executive producer. The series aims to take viewers through the physical, mental, and emotional challenges that NASCAR presents.

Five years after the initial release of “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” which helped grow the international motorsport’s popularity in the United States, NASCAR hopes to reach mainstream audiences with this personality-driven Netflix series that is out Tuesday.

“Any chance a sports fan can get to know the figures in the sport better — to like them more or to not like them more — it’s great,” NBC broadcaster Steve Letarte told The Observer last August. “To see them as human beings, more than just race car drivers.”

The NASCAR Cup Series season begins Sunday with the exhibition Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, and the Daytona 500 is scheduled for Feb. 18.
