Clay Bennett

Pulitzer prize-winning cartoonist Clay Bennett began his career as a staff artist at both the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville Times before beginning a 13-year stint with the St. Petersburg Times. Three years after his job at the Times ended, he was hired by the Christian Science Monitor, for which he has been working ever since. His work has earned him syndication with the Washington Post Writers Group and a spot as editorial cartoonist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press -- an arrangement that has both groups as excited as Bennett himself.

In addition to his Pulitzer (and five previous nominations), Bennett has won nearly every other prize awarded to editorial cartoonists: the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the 2007 Thomas Nast Award, the National Cartoonists Society Division Award for Best Editorial Cartoons, and many others. He was also named Editorial Cartoonist of the Year by Editor & Publisher magazine in 2001. Even with so many accolades to his name, Bennett insists that they are not a testament to any inherent wit or wisdom, but to his "neurotic insecurity and the obsessive work ethic that it inspires."
