MELBOURNE (UPI) -- Firefighters in Australia helped rescue a small kitten that was trapped at the bottom of a dumpster.

The local RSPCA in Melbourne contacted the Metropolitan Fire Brigade after their officers were unable to rescue the kitten who had found itself stuck underneath the bin full of trash in Keilor Park.

The kitten's head was seen sticking out from a pipe at the bottom of the dumpster as firefighters attempted to gently pull the kitten loose.

Firefighters sedated the tiny kitten and covered it in olive oil until they were able to slowly slide the kitten free.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade named the kitten Brian after firefighter Brian Herbert who ultimately pulled the kitten out from the dumpster.

The tired and dehydrated kitten was taken to a veterinarian for a check-up.
