BELTSVILLE, Md. (UPI) -- A Maryland police department said a burglary suspect accused of stealing a woman's cellphone called her home twice and spoke with police before being arrested.

The Prince George's County Police Department said a Beltsville woman called 911 on Sunday and said she woke up to find a stranger in her bedroom.

The woman said the man grabbed her cellphone before fleeing the home.

Police said the suspect used the stolen phone to call the woman's home number. They said the man called twice and spoke with a police officer each time.

Investigators said the suspect told the officer he was going to leave the stolen phone in a mailbox on a nearby street. Officers arrived at the location as the man was putting the phone into the box.

The suspect was arrested on a count of burglary and related charges.

"Here's a thought: Don't steal someone's cellphone and use it to call the victim's house. Especially if our officers are already on scene," the department said in a Facebook post.
