LONDON (UPI) -- A London man received a startling sight when he returned from attending a festival with his family to find a parking ticket totaling $5,500.

Thirty-two-year-old Manish Wadhwani tweeted a photo of his bill in disbelief after a system error led to a very costly afternoon of parking at the Winter Wonderland festival in Hyde Park.

The high total of the bill was particularly shocking because Wadhwani had reserved all day parking for a rate of about $7.50 prior to his arrival.

"Thank you for charging me insane amount for four hour prebooked and saying refund to be process after a week," he wrote.

"My first reaction was to scream in shock," Wadhwani told the Evening Standard I have never experienced anything like this before. It was the most expensive Christmas trip ever.

Wadwhani believes the astronomical bill was caused by an error that occurred when he rented the same space in August, causing the timer to run for 93 days.

"I booked into the car park on August 23 but when I was exiting there was a problem and it wouldn't work," he said. I had to call for assistance and the operator lifted the barrier to let me out. As far as I know they never registered me leaving.

National Car Parks, the company responsible for parking services at the garage, initially refused to cancel the charge despite the error leaving Wadhwani to pay the fee in its entirety.

However, the company did eventually grant him a full refund after an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the charge.

"We offer our most sincere apologies and have immediately refunded this customer," an NCP spokesperson said.
